Related Files: BYOD Letter to Parents

August 1, 2016

Dear Parents and Guardians:

The administration at Elkmont and the school board would like to remind parents to continually monitor your child’s Internet activity on BYOD devices and LCS issued MacBooks. Filters are in place at school and at home (if they are using school issued MacBooks) but that doesn't protect your child from getting to inappropriate sites.

Please do not allow your child to use the devices in their bedrooms or other places where you cannot easily see what your child is doing while using the laptop. You should know their password at all times and conduct periodic searches on all devices for inappropriate use.

The student who was issued the Limestone County School MacBooks should be the only one using the device. Siblings should never be allowed to use the device at all but if they do, they should not use the device without a parent beside them monitoring their actions and use of the laptop.

The biggest issue to date with MacBooks is liquid damage. Students should NEVER have any form of liquid around the machine.

Please remind your child that their device should be used for educational purposes.

Thank you for help and we appreciate all you do for our students at Elkmont High School.

Sincerely,

Bill Tribble
