The following is an except from Governor Riley's press release of October 4, 2006.
The Safe Schools Hotline was established in 1999 and provides students and adults a way to anonymously alert officials with information and tips regarding potential incidents of school violence. The statewide Safe Schools Hotline is 1-888-SAV-KIDS (1-888-728-5437) and is operated by the Alabama Department of Public Safety's Missing and Exploited Children's Unit. By calling this line, parents and concerned citizens may report their school safety-related information or concerns 24 hours a day.
"The safety of our children is a duty and responsibility that educators take seriously," said Dr. Morton. "Each school in Alabama has a comprehensive safety plan, but it takes the watchful eye of everyone to know when to take action. The Safe Schools Hotline allows callers to participate and is a crucial resource that help protect Alabama's school children."
